Sunflowers and Seascapes
Justin Gaffrey unveils Sunflowers and Seascapes ~ a limited collection of sculptural paintings that blur the line between painting and sculpture.
Be among the first to collect or view these bold, dimensional works inspired by both art history and the coastal landscape of Florida’s Gulf Coast.
Each piece showcases Gaffrey’s sculptural painting technique ~ where paint is pushed, carved, and layered into blooming sunflowers and sweeping seascapes that extend beyond the canvas’ edge.
Rooted in art history and symbolism, the sunflower motif meets the Gulf Coast 30A landscape, shaping Gaffrey’s vibrant color palette and organic forms.
Few works in art history carry the emotional weight and visual intensity of Vincent van Gogh’s Sunflowers. Painted in Arles between 1888 and 1889, these works transformed the sunflower into a symbol of creative possibility—one that continues to inspire artists today.
Van Gogh’s impasto made the canvas almost sculptural. Today, Gaffrey builds on this tradition, offering a hands-on approach that transforms painting into an immersive experience.
Gaffrey continues this tradition of material exploration. He physically constructs his compositions, layering heavy-bodied acrylic into dimensional forms that rise from the canvas and capture shifting light and shadow throughout the day.
Each artwork emerges from a hands-on, intuitive process—sculpted strokes that catch light, cast shadow, and create movement.
Collectors and viewers will discover unique sculptural surfaces and bold, tactile interpretations that shift visually with the changing light.
Where Van Gogh elevated paint through impasto, Gaffrey extends that philosophy into a fully sculptural practice—infusing each sunflower and seascape with new life and dimension. Please contact the gallery for a complete inventory, artist commissions, and additional information:
