A Rabbit Jumps Into a Portal
Known for his ever-evolving approach to landscape and seascape painting, Justin Gaffrey’s work combines dimensional paint and refined detail to create immersive, tactile experiences for viewers.
His paintings reflect a deep curiosity and a commitment to exploring new artistic possibilities.
“The circular shapes and rounded edges present colorful intersections shared between floral and landscape paintings, while at the same time presenting a fluid transition from the known world into an imagined dream space.”
These rounded canvases offer a looking-glass view into worlds where flora and fauna become reimagined through memory, intuition, and imagination.
Each composition invites viewers beyond observation and into an alternative state, recalling the visual language of Justin’s earlier paintings featuring his recurring “trickster” rabbit persona.
“The rabbit represents me, a lil’ trickster, if you will,” Justin explains. “The rabbit, or any of the smaller creatures presented in my work, allows me the opportunity to dream and imagine these alternative spaces.”
Moving between worlds, the rabbit becomes both guide and participant, stepping through the artist’s painted window into landscapes shaped by wonder, curiosity, and possibility.
Currently immersed in his studio, Justin is meticulously crafting and intuitively shaping this new body of work. With each piece, he pursues innovation and excellence, pushing the boundaries of texture and color.
