New Sculptural Paintings Inspired by Florida’s Gulf Coast by Justin Gaffrey

Along Florida’s 30A Scenic Highway, the coastal landscape is constantly changing. Sweeping clouds travel above the Gulf, coastal dune lakes reflect the shifting sky, and native plants reach toward the sunlight. As evening approaches, familiar scenery takes on an entirely different character.

Justin Gaffrey celebrates these transitions with new additions to his Daylight ~ Nightlight collection, a series of sculptural paintings inspired by the natural beauty surrounding his studio and gallery in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida in the heart of the 30A Scenic Coast Highway.

Each painting captures coastal moments, drawn from the extensive memory bank of a profound artist who sculpts the material's physical properties into signature swoops of color that break the wood panel’s edge. Sunlit Daylight gives way to deep evening blues of the Nightlight skies. Windswept clouds move across the horizon as native vegetation and flowering plants intermix with sculpted trees in the near distance.

Justin Gaffrey uses his self-invented, heavy-bodied acrylics - Gaffrey Art Material - in every composition, enabling thick surface texture. Thick passages of paint become rolling clouds, moving water, and delicate botanical forms. His dimensional approach invites viewers to experience the landscape beyond the traditional painted surface.

The newest works explore the relationship between light, atmosphere, and the quiet movement of nature. From the shores of Choctawhatchee Bay to Western Lake and the coastal dune lakes along 30A, each composition offers a personal interpretation of the places Justin continues to explore.
