I have always struggled with where I place myself within the larger context of art. For some people art speaks the language of a social or political meaning, and I have tried to find a balance in there somewhere. As life goes on I recognize I do not fit within categories. My pleasure comes from making beautiful things. Yet I believe art is beyond decorative. I find comfort in the aesthetics of nature, be it amid a sublime landscape, along still waters or in the quiet forest, there is uncomplicated contemplation. Whether beauty comes from the austere or mathematically intricate design of our world, I find a connection and sense of elemental belonging from peace within myself. My work this year will reflect all aspects of this beauty with peace and vitality.
